Gastprofessor Stavros Brekoulakis

24.05.2017

Stavros Brekoulakis is a Professor in International Arbitration and Commercial Law at Queen Mary University of London, as well as an attorney-at-law.

He teaches courses in International Commercial Arbitration, International Construction Contracts and Arbitration, International Commercial Litigation and Conflict of Laws, International Commercial Law.

He will be teaching the course "Colloquium: Public Interest in Arbitration" (course number 030508) together with Prof. Koller in the summer semester 2017 (Wednesday May 24th, 11:00, SEM31) at the University of Vienna.

The lecture will explore the public interest implications in public-private arbitrations, i.e. arbitrations involving public entities in public contracts. The lecture compares the legal framework for public-private arbitrations in different jurisdictions, focusing on English arbitration law, which (as the lecture will argue) is based on a private law paradigm which lacks public law safeguards, and is thus inadequate to protect public interest.
