Straniak Academy for Democracy and Human Rights 2019, Ulcinj/Montenegro

The Straniak Academy for Democracy and Human Rights was established in 2013 by the Ludwig Boltzmann Institute of Human Rights based in Vienna. Cooperation partners are the Faculty of Law of the University of Vienna and Universities from the Western Balkan region, this year the Faculty of Law of the University of Tirana.

The name of the Academy refers to its main facilitator, the Hermann and Marianne Straniak Foundation. The Straniak Academy is also supported by the Central European Initiative (CEI) as well as by law firms and companies from Austria and Albania.
 
In 2019, the Academy takes place from 1 to 14 September in Ulcinj/Montenegro.

  • Aim of the Academy
    The goal of the Academy is to promote academic education on democracy, human rights and the rule of law by linking theory and practice, promoted through an interdisciplinary and interactive format with a regional focus on the Western Balkans.

  • Concept and Programme
    The Straniak Academy offers an interesting two weeks programme for advanced students and recent graduates, especially coming from the Western Balkan region and Austria. But also students from other EU Member States or other countries are welcome to apply. The Academy offers the unique opportunity to participate in lectures and discuss important issues on democracy, human rights and the rule of law with professors, practitioners, and international and regional experts with different academic and regional backgrounds. The lectures will take place in the morning and in the afternoon. On some days, also evening discussions and round tables will be organised.

    In between the lectures and during the weekend, students will have time to enjoy the sea and explore the cultural heritage of Albania!

  • Certificates and credits
    After passing the obligatory final exam, students will get a diploma. It is possible to get ECTS points for the programme, depending on the plan and curriculum of the students’ respective universities and faculties.

  • Registration fees and accommodation
    Registration fee for students and graduates from the Western Balkan region: EUR 200
    Registration fee for students and graduates from EU Member States and other countries: EUR 400

 
The Straniak Academy covers the costs for the lectures and accommodation (half board including breakfast and lunch in the hotel).
